Make teaching Marxist socialist history mandatory
Mike Walker, Col. USMC (ret)
All,
We already know that the only place Marxism is alive and well in free societies is in their colleges and universities. In the United States, there are more Marxists socialist professors than conservative and Libertarian combined.
Not unexpectedly, college students often pick up a positive opinion of Marxist socialism.
This happens because, in American colleges and universities, Marxist socialism almost exclusively is taught as a theory -- idealistic and wonderful theory.
That is a national sickness but there is a legislative solution.
Legislatures need to require state departments of education to adopt the teaching of the history of Marxist socialism in the 20th and 21st centuries as part of the mandatory K-12 curriculum.
We too often teach an exaggerated version of the horrors and evils of American History so let us require that our students get a real look at the sickening history of the evils and horrors of Marxist socialism as a practical reality.
This will serve two purposes:
First, it will give K-12 students a vitally needed perspective on World History.
Second, it will inoculate incoming college students. When they are taught the "beauty" of Marxism they already will know its ugliness and won't easily get suckered in by some prof's siren call.
It is a win-win for our educational system, our students, and our country!
